The London Aquarium boasts one of the biggest collections of aquatic life in Europe, and is a popular tourist attraction with close on a million visitors per year. Situated in the heart of Central London, on the South Bank of the River Thames, the Aquarium is also involved in breeding and conservation projects such as the 'Walk for Whales'; an activity organised to highlight the cruelty of commercial whaling. The feeding times of the sharks, terrapins and rays are enduring highlights of the interactive voyage of discovery, and the 'Adopt a Creature' programme, where patrons can financially support the care of a turtle, shark, seal or penguin, has been a remarkable success. The Aquarium is close to the London Eye, and can be reached by the full range of public transport. The nearest tube stations are Westminster and Waterloo, whereas Charing Cross and Waterloo East are the closest railway stops.
