London Dungeon is a popular attraction, opened in 1976 in the Tooley Street side of the London Bridge, and is branded 'The Museum of Horrible History'. Owned by the same company that operates Madame Tussauds, Warwick Castle and the London Eye; London Dungeon showcases various gruesome moments in England's long and chequered history, including the blood thirsty tortures credited to the medieval period. With the help of live actors and interactive special effects, iconic times in history are relived for the benefit of the audience. Gory events include the Great Bubonic Plague; the story of Sweeney Todd, recently popularised in a Hollywood film with Johnny Depp in the starring role, and the tale of Britain's most murderous monarch, Bloody Mary Tudor. The London Bridge Underground and Railway station is 100m from the venue, and Monument/Bank Docklands Light Railway and London Underground Station are also within walking distance of London Dungeon.
