Surely the best treat for any film fundi is to visit the BFI (British Film Institute) South Bank in central London - known colloquially as the National Film Theatre. The BFI complex not only serves up seasons of spectacular classic and independent films in its three plush cinemas, but also offers an unrivalled IMAX experience. The unique Mediatheque is also available - a comprehensive cinematic archive visitors are welcome to plunder at individual viewing stations. A big draw-card is the BFI IMAX theatre, with its enormous screen, surround sound and the most sophisticated motion-picture projection system in the world, which literally puts the audience 'in the picture'. The complex also contains bars and cafes, and patrons may enjoy their refreshments in the auditoria. The BFI Southbank complex in Belvedere Road is tucked under Waterloo Bridge, easily accessed from the South Bank exit of Waterloo Station. It opens daily from 11am to 11pm.
